BINTULU: The development of infrastructure in the Sebauh area needs to align with the rapid progress of Bintulu city to ensure that rural residents also benefit from economic growth and social well-being.

Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Rural Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said that projects such as the Sebauh Bridge, the Sungai Binyo Bridge, and the construction of access roads not only improve basic amenities but also create more economic opportunities and facilitate the movement of residents and businesses in the area.

“We want to ensure that Sebauh’s development does not lag behind and can grow in line with Bintulu city.

“Better infrastructure will stimulate economic growth, benefit the rural community, and completely renew the landscape of Sebauh town,” he said during a briefing on the status of the implementation of special projects by the Premier of Sarawak and proposed projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) for the Sebauh district held recently.

During the briefing, among the projects presented were the Sebauh Roman Catholic Church, which is expected to begin construction in April 2025, and the Sebauh District Mosque, which is scheduled to be completed in July 2026 after an 18-month construction period.

Additionally, the Sebauh Waterfront project is currently in the phase of fund allocation to begin preliminary construction work.

Meanwhile, the Sebauh Bridge has reached 60 per cent completion and is expected to be finished by January 2026, while the Sungai Binyo Bridge has faced delays due to flooding, with only 45 per cent progress made so far.

Dr Rundi also stressed that continuous monitoring will be carried out to ensure all these projects proceed according to schedule for the well-being of the residents and the future development of Sebauh.
