SEBUYAU: The Sebuyau Agro Research Lab project is set to strengthen coconut research and development, laying the groundwork for the area to emerge as one of Sarawak’s future coconut-producing hubs.

During a recent site visit, Samarahan Division Resident, Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang, together with representatives from relevant agencies, community leaders and councillors, assessed the proposed site to ensure all implementation requirements are in place ahead of the project’s rollout.

The research facility will focus on advancing coconut cultivation through research and development (R&D), with the aim of enhancing Sebuyau’s agricultural sector by adopting research- and technology-driven approaches.

During the visit, the delegation assessed the site’s suitability, accessibility, basic infrastructure, safety considerations and logistical requirements to facilitate the smooth implementation of the project.

The agencies also coordinated follow-up actions on site preparations, facilities and arrangements for the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in the near future.

Once operational, the Agro Research Lab is expected to strengthen coconut research activities and support the development of a more structured, knowledge-based agricultural sector while creating long-term benefits for the local community.
