LIMBANG: Construction of the second Limbang River bridge is progressing well, with 76 per cent of the work completed and full completion expected by June 2026

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the project forms part of a larger state infrastructure development plan that includes the Northern Coastal Highway (dual carriageway) and the second phase of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR).

“The Northern Coastal Highway will be implemented concurrently through five packages covering Limbang and Lawas. Each package will be managed by a different main contractor.

“Since the project was taken over by a new contractor in 2023, progress has been very encouraging.

“All construction materials are ready, and the workforce is sufficient. This will help speed up the overall construction timeline,” he said during a site visit yesterday (July 21).

He pointed out that the bridge will serve as a key connection to the Northern Coastal Highway and is expected to ease travel while driving economic growth in areas located across the Limbang River.

During the visit, Awang Tengah was also updated on the progress of the Limbang Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC), which has reached over 67 per cent completion and is slated for completion in May 2026.

He noted that discussions are still ongoing with the Government of Brunei Darussalam regarding the proposed construction of the Pendam Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex.

The bridge project is expected to reduce travel time to Brunei and act as a catalyst for physical and economic development in rural areas separated by the river.
