LIMBANG: The Second Sungai Limbang Bridge is expected to be fully completed and operational by April 2026.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the strategic project is showing encouraging progress with the main cable-stayed structure expected to be completed as early as the end of this year.

“I have been informed that the bridge structure could be completed by December.

“If all goes well, it can be used by around April 2026,” he said after visiting the construction site today.

He added that the bridge will not only strengthen the connection between Limbang and Brunei Darussalam but also boost trade and tourism links between the two regions.

“We already have a good trade relationship with Brunei, including through the presence of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Brunei (STATOB).

“Once the bridge is completed, it will further enhance cooperation between the two governments,” he said.

Abang Johari said that Bandar Seri Begawan has the potential to be a main gateway for tourists entering Sarawak, who will then be able to access various attractions via the Limbang Bridge in just 30 minutes.

He also explained that road infrastructure development from Limbang to Gunung Buda is actively underway and will be extended to the Gunung Mulu area, opening up eco-tourism routes.

“Gunung Buda is part of the Gunung Mulu area.

“We are also developing the road from Miri to Marudi, which now has a bridge, and from Marudi to Long Terawan before connecting to Gunung Buda.

“This will form a complete loop that allows tourists to travel from Brunei to Limbang and then on to Mulu via Gunung Buda, facilitating mobility and stimulating eco-tourism for both countries,” he said.
