TANJUNG MANIS: Tanjung Manis is poised for a second wave of development with several major infrastructure projects in the pipeline.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the plans include the expansion of the existing Tanjung Manis airport, the development of a golf course, and additional lodging facilities to cater to tourists.
He said Belawai, together with Kuala Rajang and the wider Tanjung Manis area, would be developed into an attraction to drive growth in the region.
“Belawai Beach sounds like Hawaii. If the world has Hawaii, Sarawak has Belawai.
“We will develop Belawai with accommodation such as hotels and homestays, along with a golf course. With these facilities, they won’t just serve our local people but also visitors from outside,” he said in his speech at the 18th Tanjung Manis Fishing Safari, held at the Tanjung Manis Express Terminal today.
He added that with the establishment of AirBorneo, these developments would also help attract tourists from countries such as South Korea and Japan.
Abang Johari said the influx of visitors would generate spending, creating economic spillover effects that would directly benefit the local community in Tanjung Manis.
“That is why under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, we are opening up areas like our very own Hawaii, complete with an airport, golf course and other facilities. This is our plan for the second wave of development,” he stressed.
