KUCHING: A security guard was handed a fine of RM3,000 or six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on Monday for injuring a man with an electronic cigarette.

Mohd Firdaus Ahmad Mazlan, 32, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

He committed the offence in front of a restaurant in Bandar Baru Samariang, at about 10pm, on Oct 24.

Based on the facts of the case, a man who was in his rented home above a shop was informed by his sister that their sibling had got into a fight with two men.

It is understood that the fight broke out because the sibling refused to buy a Samsung phone from the two men.

The man tried to break up the fight but was instead hit on his head with an electronic cigarette, causing an injury.

The fight was eventually stopped by public in the area.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the case while Moh Firdaus was represented by a counsel from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
