KUCHING: Police arrested a security guard who allegedly attacked his colleague with a wooden baton at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) lobby on Monday (Nov 10).
The 29-year-old suspect was tracked down and detained shortly after the assault, which left the 55-year-old victim with multiple injuries.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim was struck from behind with a wooden baton while on duty at around 4 am.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said he sustained a head injury requiring eight stitches and a fractured right thumb
“CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts confirmed the suspect was the victim’s colleague.
“The assault believed to have been triggered by dissatisfaction over an unsettled personal debt between the men,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded until Nov 15 to facilitate investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous object.
Alexson advised the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid taking matters into their own hands.
