KUCHING: A security guard was sentenced to 11 months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for assaulting his colleague with a wooden baton at a hospital here last Monday (November 10).
Nur Fikri Hakimi, 29, from Oya, Sibu, pleaded guilty when the charge was read before Senior Assistant Registrar, Mohammad Fauzi Ancho.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to a 55-year-old male colleague using a weapon capable of causing death, a wooden baton, at about 4:00 am in the hospital’s main lobby.
The court ordered the sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest on November 10.
According to the case facts, the victim was carrying out his duties at the lobby when he was suddenly attacked from behind by Nur Fikri.
The assault left the victim with head injuries and a fractured right thumb, requiring emergency treatment and eight stitches.
A police report was subsequently lodged, and CCTV footage confirmed that Nur Fikri was the victim’s co-worker, who had left his workstation for about 20 minutes without informing the supervisor.
Police arrested him later the same day at a rented room.
Further checks revealed he had a past record involving drug abuse, and he also tested positive for methamphetamine during the arrest.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, prosecuted, while Nur Fikri was unrepresented.
