KUCHING: Swift action by a security guard at an apartment in MJC Batu Kawa prevented a major fire disaster on last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Batu Lintang and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 9.20 pm.
Upon arrival, they found the fire caused 80 per cent damage to the unit on the eighth floor, and it had already been put out by the guard using a fire extinguisher.
The team only monitored the situation and ensured that there was no risk of reignition.
Once it was deemed safe, the team returned to their stations.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
