KANOWIT: The construction of the Sedaya Ferry Terminal, aimed at linking Ngemah and Machan, is now in its final stage before securing full technical approval.
Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong expressed hope that the project would be implemented and completed within this year, promising faster and more efficient transportation for local residents.
“Currently, those travelling from Ngemah to Machan have to take a longer route through Durin.
“Once the ferry terminal is completed, it will save time and ease access to Kanowit Market, the hospital and key government offices such as the District Office,” he said at the appointment certificate presentation ceremony for community leaders (KMKK) in Machan at the Kanowit District Office Hall on Friday.
Allan also revealed that several new development proposals had been submitted to the Sarawak government, including the Kanowit Business Integrated Centre, which would house various agencies such as the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), and others.
“This one-stop centre will enable residents to settle matters such as bill payments and administrative tasks without travelling to the town centre, saving time and offering greater convenience for rural communities,” he said.
He further proposed the construction of a new community hall to cater to the growing population, as the current facility is no longer adequate.
Allan believes these initiatives will not only accelerate development around the Kanowit jetty area but also help ease traffic congestion at the main market, particularly during peak morning hours.
