DALAT: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) has handed over a solar installation project to residents of Rumah Abus anak Junau in Nanga Jelai, Batang Oya, marking a renewed push to expand sustainable community infrastructure in rural Sarawak.
The handover ceremony, held Friday, was attended by Tellian state assemblyman, Royston Valentine, district officials and members of the longhouse community.
SEDC was represented by its Head of Group Corporate Communications, Nur Khairanie Nasya Jasni, who delivered the corporation’s message on the importance of green technology adoption.
The initiative, themed ‘Brightening Communities, Empowering Futures’, is part of SEDC’s annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme and the corporation’s first sustainability-focused CSR project of the year.
The project includes the installation of 18 solar lamps along the longhouse ruai and 15 solar-powered streetlights along community pathways, aimed at improving safety, mobility and overall quality of life for residents.
Nur Khairanie said the programme reflects SEDC’s commitment to advancing Sarawak’s sustainability goals, and ensuring that rural communities benefit from cleaner, more reliable energy solutions.
She added that the corporation aims to support inclusive development while promoting environmental responsibility.
Beyond its economic mandate, SEDC has increasingly positioned itself as a driver of long-term community resilience and environmental stewardship.
Its CSR efforts focus on expanding renewable energy use, improving essential rural infrastructure, fostering environmental awareness, and implementing programmes with lasting social impact.
SEDC said it will continue rolling out sustainability initiatives across Sarawak, reaffirming its commitment to social well-being, environmental responsibility, and community empowerment.
