KUCHING: SEDC Energy (SEDCE) and the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) continued their annual Ramadan outreach by distributing traditional bubur pedas to communities in Batu Kawa on Monday (Mar 16).

Held at the PETROS Multifuel Station (MFS) Batu Kawa, the programme saw residents from RPR Batu Kawa Phase 2, Kampung Sinar Budi, Taman Desa Bumiko and Taman Desa Wira receiving the dish.

According to a press release by SEDC Energy, the distribution was led by State Bomba director Jamri Masran and representing chief executive officer Robert Hardin was SEDCE head of sales and operations Kathleen Kiew.

Now in its third year, the initiative highlights ongoing collaboration between both organisations to foster community engagement during the fasting month.

Earlier, personnel from SEDCE and Bomba worked together to prepare the Sarawakian delicacy at the Bomba Sarawak headquarters.

Robert said the programme reflects PETROS MFS’ evolving role as more than just a refuelling station.

“As Sarawak’s very own brand, PETROS MFS is poised to be more than just a refuelling station. It is a community centre that brings everyone together under one roof such as what we are doing today,” he said.

Beyond the outreach effort, SEDCE continues to expand its energy infrastructure across the state.

To date, 12 PETROS MFS are operational statewide, including in Kuching, Sibu, Kapit, Selangau, Tatau and Jepak.

The corporation is also advancing Sarawak’s clean energy agenda, with its flagship stations set to support hydrogen refuelling alongside conventional fuel and electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities.

A third flagship station in Bintulu is expected to be completed by the second quarter of this year, with additional flagship sites planned in Sri Aman, Miri and Sibu.

SEDCE is also developing around 40 more sites statewide, while expanding EV charging infrastructure with 17 facilities currently in operation and more in the pipeline.

A symbolic handover of bubur pedas takes place during the Ramadan outreach programme.
