KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) hosted its first-ever SEDC 2025 Aidilfitri Open House, uniting all of its investee companies under one roof since its establishment on March 1, 1972.
Held at Dewan Asajaya, Grand Margherita Hotel, the celebration was graced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and attended by numerous dignitaries, including state ministers, federal and state department heads, and key stakeholders from various sectors.
SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain noted that this was the first Aidilfitri celebration on such a large scale in the corporation’s 53-year history, with full participation from all SEDC subsidiaries.
“SEDC has come a long way, overcoming various challenges – from the early stages of basic industrial development, to the housing and property sectors, and now venturing into strategic fields such as new energy technology, foreign investments, tourism, and the digital and green economies,” he said in his speech.
“These developments reflect SEDC’s commitment to being a policy implementer that supports the state’s development agenda in line with the Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“At SEDC, we have never measured success purely by numbers or assets – but by the social impact brought to the people of Sarawak,” he added.
Abdul Aziz added that the event served as a platform for SEDC to express its heartfelt appreciation to all ministries, departments, agencies, private sector partners, and community stakeholders whose continued trust and collaboration have been instrumental in positioning SEDC as a premier catalyst for economic transformation in Sarawak.
“We believe our success is a shared success, and therefore, this open house celebration is not only for our staff but for everyone who has been part of SEDC’s journey and achievements over the years,” he said.
The event featured an opening performance by Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) dancers, which included their signature welcoming dance and the Tarian Nopeng – a creative performance inspired by Gendang Melayu Sarawak, incorporating traditional elements of drumming, pantun, and mukun in line with the festive “Colours of Aidilfitri” theme.
A special highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial cutting of the Kek Palak Meja, a unique Sarawakian tradition during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Abang Johari joined Abdul Aziz in the symbolic cultural ceremony, which represents unity and prosperity, showcasing Sarawak’s rich heritage to the corporate gathering.
