KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and its subsidiary SEDC Quarries Sdn Bhd have contributed RM880,000 in business zakat to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).

The contribution was handed over during a breaking-of-fast event at Grand Margherita Hotel on Saturday (March 7), witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

SEDC chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain presented the zakat to TBS general manager, Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.

The contribution aims to assist those in need while ensuring the blessings of Ramadan are shared more widely within the community.

At the same event, SEDC Resources Sdn Bhd donated RM200,000 to the Association for the Welfare of Intellectually Disabled Children (PERKATA) to support the association’s efforts to care for and empower children with special needs.

SEDC also presented contributions to students of Madrasah Tahfiz Sulaimanniyyah Ar Ruqiyyah as part of its support for strengthening religious education and instilling positive values among the younger generation.

The event continued with the breaking of fast, followed by Maghrib prayers and dinner before concluding with Isyak and Tarawih prayers, as well as moreh.
