KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) successfully hosted its inaugural Pickleball Tournament 2025 on Saturday at PIKABOL on Jalan Pending here, marking a significant milestone in promoting sports and wellness for the community in Sarawak.

The tournament drew an impressive turnout of 132 pairs, comprising 124 pairs competing across women’s doubles, men’s doubles, veteran’s doubles, and mixed doubles categories, alongside eight pairs in the prestigious VIP category, bringing together state ministers and other distinguished guests.

Adding to the competitive spirit, SEDC offers an attractive prize offering with a total cash prize pool of RM10,800 distributed across the main competitive categories, inclusive of medals and trophies, whereas the VIP category participants received commemorative trophies recognising their participation and support.

SEDC Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, emphasised the tournament’s significance in responding to pickleball’s growing popularity in Sarawak.

A statement issued recently by SEDC mentioned that the successful event was organised in collaboration with SEDC’s recreational club PEDAS and strategically supported by key partners, including The Podium Project and the Kuching Pickleball Association, which provided essential organisational support and made significant contributions to the tournament’s success.

Abdul Aziz said that pickleball is more than just games; it’s about building friendships, promoting wellness, and giving everyone the chance to unwind while staying active.

He expressed confidence that this inaugural tournament would not be the last, signalling plans for even more exciting future editions.

The tournament held demonstrated SEDC’s dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement among its stakeholders while supporting the growth of pickleball in Sarawak.
