KUCHING: The SeDidik Centre of Excellence (SCoE) Talent Hub aims to develop children’s creativity and communication skills, with programmes designed to build confidence, literacy, and holistic growth from an early age.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the hub would play a vital role in shaping future-ready children during her visit to the centre on Wednesday (Aug 20).

“Educational research shows that children learn best and discover their abilities through music, arts, physical activity and fun learning.

“With the SCoE Talent Hub, we are creating a centralised platform to help children grow into creative, disciplined and healthy individuals.”

The hub, located at Jalan Kulas here, builds on SeDidik’s niche programmes such as Kinder Music, Kinder Gym, Kinder Martial Arts and Kinder Culture and Arts, focusing on the Young Writers Programme and the Young Orators Programme.

The Young Writers initiative, conducted with the Singapore Book Council, has been a notable success.

Children from seven zones across Sarawak, including Sibu, Samarahan, Kuching and Miri, produced a total of 523 books, highlighting both creativity and early literacy skills.

“This not only encouraged literacy at an early age but also built confidence among preschoolers to express their ideas through books,” Fatimah said.

The Young Orators Programme, carried out with the Toastmasters Club, has also been introduced in Kuching and Samarahan Zones.

The programme trains children aged four to six in public speaking, storytelling and interactive discussions to boost self-confidence and communication skills.

Other achievements include SeDidik’s registration as an official publisher with the National Library of Malaysia, enabling children’s work to be formally recognised, and arts workshops delivered in collaboration with the Sarawak Arts Council and Anjung Karyawan Seni.

Fatimah stressed that the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening early childhood education while preserving local cultural heritage.

“With strong partnerships and innovative programmes, SeDidik will continue to provide high-quality early childhood education and talent development.

“This is about creating opportunities that allow our children to shine, and to tell their stories with confidence.”
