KUCHING: The Sejingkat Bridge project has reached 54.77 per cent completion and remains on track to be finished by March 2026.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the progress has been satisfactory and expressed confidence the bridge would be delivered as scheduled.
“After discussions with the contractor, we are confident the project can be completed on time as all materials are already on site and no major problems have been reported.
“As of now, the project has achieved 54.77 per cent progress, which is about a three per cent increase compared to the previous report.
“The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) will continue to coordinate and monitor to ensure the works proceed smoothly and according to schedule,” he said during his working visit to the project site here today (Sept 1).
At the same time, he stressed that the contractor would need to refine its work schedule and ensure every task is implemented according to the revised arrangements.
“Continuous monitoring will be done to ensure that all outlined strategies and plans are fully implemented to achieve the project’s objectives,” he added.
The Sejingkat Bridge, costing over RM360 million, will span 1.28 kilometres across Sungai Sarawak, standing 26 metres above the river with pylons rising 119 metres.
The cable-stayed structure also includes two kilometres of approach roads linking Sejingkat to the completed section at Tanjong Bako.
As part of Sarawak’s Second Trunk Road Network, the bridge is designed to ease traffic congestion by providing an alternative route for coastal areas, allowing road users to bypass the often-congested Samarahan corridor.
It is also expected to boost connectivity between Kuching, Samarahan and surrounding coastal towns.
