MIRI: Construction of a covered multipurpose hall at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Miri under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024 has reached 40 per cent completion, according to officials during a site inspection on Thursday.
The RM150,000 project was inspected by Piasau state assemblyman, who is also Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, alongside officers from the Public Works Department, the appointed contractor and the school headmaster.
Works began on October 29 last year, and are scheduled for completion by April 29 this year, within a six-month construction period.
Ting said the facility would address long-standing needs for safer and more functional shared space at the school, particularly for assemblies and student activities conducted during adverse weather.
He said progress on site was satisfactory and stressed the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
The covered hall forms part of the government’s RTP initiative to upgrade essential infrastructure at rural and community-based schools, focusing on practical improvements with direct impact on students and staff.
Pemanca Leonard Fong, Councillor Lisa Yu and Councillor Tan Lek Jin were also present during the inspection, signalling continued political oversight of RTP project delivery in the Piasau constituency.
The project will be monitored in the coming months as it moves into its next construction phase, with completion expected before the end of April next year.
