KUCHING: Selangau is preparing for a major agricultural event, Selangau Agrofest 2025, which will be held from Aug 1 to 3 at the grounds of MR DIY and PMG Pharmacy in Selangau.

The announcement was made by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang through his official Facebook post today, following a preparation meeting held on Jul 2 at the Sibu Divisional Agriculture Office.

Gira said the three-day expo, organised by the Sibu Divisional Agriculture Office, aims to promote agriculture as a key economic driver for rural development while increasing awareness and encouraging greater involvement among local communities, particularly youth, in modern agricultural practices and career opportunities.

He emphasised that events such as Agrofest play an important role in building networks between government agencies, the private sector and rural communities, which are essential for stimulating the agroindustry in the region.

Selangau Agrofest 2025 is expected to attract a wide range of participants with its variety of activities including agricultural exhibitions, fresh produce sales, technology demonstrations and local entrepreneurship showcases in agro-food and agro-tourism.

Gira described the programme as an important platform for agropreneurs and related agencies to exchange knowledge, share innovations and explore potential collaborations for future development.

The event is set to be officiated by Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the Kemena assemblyman.

During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to explore agricultural innovations, engage with agropreneurs, and take part in family-oriented activities including Selangau Kitchen cooking demonstrations using local ingredients, interactive sessions with industry experts, awards for outstanding agropreneurs, mini games, children’s colouring contests, and lucky draws held throughout the day.

Gira invited the public, especially farmers, students, youth and families, to attend and support Selangau Agrofest 2025, describing it as not only a showcase of local agricultural success but also a valuable platform to foster unity and drive rural economic growth.
