SELANGAU: Rural areas in the parliamentary constituency of Selangau are expected to experience accelerated development through the implementation of high-impact projects under the Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA).
Selangau MP Edwin Banta said MiRRDA now plays a vital role in systematically planning and delivering essential infrastructure such as road access, electricity, and clean water — crucial needs for a region that encompasses over 800 longhouses.
“Through MiRRDA, various development initiatives can be more effectively coordinated, including oil palm and coffee cultivation projects that hold strong economic potential for rural communities,” he said during the ‘Leaders with the People’ session held in conjunction with the launch of a roofing project at Rumah Dali, Nanga Tamin recently.
Edwin also assured that he will continue to be on the ground to monitor community needs and ensure equitable access to development across all areas.
Addressing concerns over the allocation of Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds, Edwin explained that distributions are made in phases based on priority needs.
He urged residents to remain patient and trust in the government’s transparent delivery system.
He also called on longhouse chiefs to take an active leadership role in advocating for their communities.
“We need progressive, open-minded, and competitive leadership to ensure our longhouses are not left behind in the wave of development,” he said.
