SHAH ALAM: Selangor will ensure that the selection of events for the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) is fair to all states, said the state’s Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman, Mohd Najwan Halimi.
As the host, he said Selangor would propose several additional sports, apart from the 28 core events, for consideration by the Sukma Supreme Committee, which is set to meet on Feb 26.
“As the host, Selangor does not only consider sports from our perspective. For example, pickleball is actively played in Selangor but not in other states.
“It would be unfair to states that lack the facilities for the sport, let alone those that are unprepared to compete,” he told reporters after officially opening the fourth branch of Burg & Go restaurant in Section 7 recently.
Mohd Najwan said that while Selangor aims to introduce new sports and provide exposure for young athletes, discussions with all participating states would take place before a final decision is made.
He also stated that Selangor would not object if Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, as the Sukma Supreme Committee chairman, decides to add certain events after discussions with the committee members, comprising the youth and sports executive councillors from all competing states. – BERNAMA
