KUCHING: The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department has been directed to make efforts to improve the quality of water from catchment areas within the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg gave the instruction when asked for his comment regarding the Auditor General’s Report 2016 which brought up the subject matter.
“I will direct the department and other relevant authorities to look into the matter do something about it,” he said.
He said this to reporters after officiating at the 29th Kuching City Day Celebration that was held at Stadium Perpaduan here yesterday.
In the report, it was stated that 18 rivers in the state are semi-polluted and could cause health hazards to people living in rural areas as it is their raw source of water.
