Senators visit state legislative assembly to exchange views

KUCHING: Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) was the first destination for the Senate Reform Working Committee in its series of visit to several state constituencies in the country.

According to its chairman Senator Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff, as the main stakeholders of the Parliament, the visit aimed to discuss and exchange views on the roles of the Dewan in their respective states.

“Firstly, we asked about the aspiration of our counterparts here especially the Speaker and assemblymen.

“We also asked about the important issues and that the state speaker had suggested a few important issues such as economics,” he told reporters.

A total of 25 delegates participated in the courtesy visit yesterday.

Commenting further on the visit, Mohd Yusmadi said that the matters discussed during the meeting would be presented in a report before the month of March to strengthen the role of the Dewan Negara for the betterment of the people.

The Dewan Negara has established a Senate Reform Working Committee comprising 14 members of the Dewan Negara.
