KUCHING: A 66-year-old man was arrested after police seized 70 packets of suspected methamphetamine weighing 65 grammes in a raid at a house in Kampung Sourabaya Hilir here on Thursday (Feb 26).
The suspect is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Kuching Police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the arrest was made at about 12.40 pm on the same day by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the district police headquarters (IPD).
“The total weight of the drugs seized was 65 grammes, with an estimated market value of RM7,150,” he said in a statement.
Initial urine screening test on the suspect returned negative results.
Police checks also found that the suspect had no prior criminal record.
The suspect has been remanded for five days from Feb 28 until March 4 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations.
