KOTA SAMARAHAN: An elderly man died after the lorry he was driving swerved into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a pick-up truck at Kilometre 19, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Lee Ah Lok, 71, was pinned to his seat following the impact and had to be extricated by firefighters from the lorry, which was carrying hardware items.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Meanwhile, the pick-up truck’s occupants – an elderly man, a woman and a child – sustained light injuries and were taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
Kota Samarahan Police Chief, Supt Damataries Lautin, confirmed the accident occurred at around 3:30 pm.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry was heading towards Batu Kitang from Kota Samarahan prior to the collision.
“Upon arriving at a corner, the lorry swerved out of control and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the oncoming pick-up truck,” he said.
As a result, the victim was confirmed dead and his body was taken to SGH for further action.
Damataries said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
