KUCHING: The battle lines are drawn as the men’s regu and youth regu categories of the 2025 Sarawak Cup Sepak Takraw Championship kick off tomorrow (Jun 20).

Both categories promise an electrifying showcase of raw talent and seasoned skill from all ten divisions across the state.

The youth regu matches will serve as the curtain-raiser, starting at 8.30 am, followed by the men’s regu matches in the afternoon and evening, all taking place at the Samarahan Indoor Stadium.

Tournament chairman Mohd Nizam Wang said the youth regu fixtures are expected to steal the spotlight, as fans and scouts alike look out for the next generation of Sarawak sepak takraw stars.

“We expect to witness exciting performances from young talents with exceptional potential.

“Some of these players could be future pillars of the sport in Sarawak,” Mohd Nizam told Sarawak Tribune.

More than just medals are on the line — the championship doubles as a scouting ground for the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association as it begins shaping a stronger squad for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

Mohd Nizam said the men’s regu will be played in a knockout format, while the youth regu will be contested in a group league format, allowing teams to build rhythm and chemistry.

The youth regu category features four groups, each consisting of three teams.

Group A includes Mukah, Miri, and Samarahan B, while Group B sees Betong A, Limbang, and Sibu in action.

Group C is made up of Betong B, Samarahan A, and Serian, and Group D brings together Sri Aman, Bintulu, and Kuching.

With pride and state selection at stake, all eyes will be on Samarahan as Sarawak’s sepak takraw players take to the court tomorrow.
