KOTA SAMARAHAN: Serian captain, Zaifudin Seruji, says his team is determined to keep their winning momentum going in the Sarawak Premier League’s Southern Zone after a dramatic last-minute victory over Samarahan.

Zaifudin said the win was a proud moment for the team, particularly after dealing with a difficult pitch that forced both sides to use long balls.

“It was not an easy match. The pitch made things challenging, but we adapted. Winning it right at the end felt great. It was worth it. This win shows that all our hard work has paid off,” he told Sarawak Tribune at Samarahan Stadium here last night.

Zaifudin, who stepped in as captain earlier this season, said the victory was particularly meaningful for the team and their community.

“I am an anak jati (true local) Serian. To win for our hometown means a lot to us,” he added.

The 22-year-old, who comes from a family of five siblings, said he began playing competitively for over three years and has been steadily growing in confidence and leadership.

Looking ahead, Zaifudin emphasised that Serian’s focus now is on consistency as the Sarawak Premier League’s Southern Zone battle tightens.

“Our hope is to maintain our momentum and stay at the top. What matters is that we keep giving our best for Serian,” he said.

Zaifudin also expressed gratitude to the team’s management for their support throughout the season.

“Thank you to the management for taking care of us, from our meals to training. They support us well and treat us fairly,” he said.

He encouraged Serian’s young talents to value their abilities, nurture their potential, and make the most of every opportunity in football.

The 2-1 result, thanks to Serian’s Paul Sambang, helps boost Serian’s standing, while Samarahan can take positives despite missed opportunities.
