SAMARAHAN: Serian FA marched into the Sarawak Premier League semi-finals after maintaining control over Kapit FA in the second leg at Stadium UNIMAS today (Jan 17).
Holding a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg, Serian continued where they left off by striking early through Mackenzie Peter in the 16th minute.
The goal was sparked by Paul Sambang, who weaved past two defenders before delivering a composed assist for the defender to finish from close range.
Serian doubled their lead five minutes later when Mohd Kamarul Julai rose unmarked to head home a well-delivered free kick in the 21st minute, putting the tie firmly beyond Kapit’s reach.
Kapit FA, however, showed resilience and were rewarded just before halftime when Nickson Dicky Pili calmly converted a penalty to reduce the deficit and restore some pride for the visitors.
The second half saw Serian control much of the possession, while Kapit looked to threaten mainly through counter-attacks.
Serian continued to probe down both flanks, creating several chances, with efforts either sailing wide or striking the post early in the second half.
Credit to Kapit who defended resolutely against a strong and organised Serian side, limiting further damage for much of the half.
Paul Sambang eventually added Serian’s third with a beautifully taken free kick from just outside the box in the 86th minute, restoring a two-goal cushion on the night.
Despite Kapit’s late push, Serian remained disciplined at the back to see out the match and secure their place in the last four of the Sarawak Premier League with a 6-1 aggregate victory.
