SERIAN: The construction project of the Serian-Gedong dual carriageway, which connects Serian, Gedong, and Samarahan, has recorded an early progress of 4.5 per cent and is currently ahead of schedule after land acquisition issues were successfully resolved.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the physical progress of the project reflects a positive development compared to before.
He explained that the project had previously faced constraints related to the land acquisition process, but most of these issues have now been resolved, allowing the contractor to carry out work more smoothly.
“There were problems related to land issues, particularly in the land acquisition process by the relevant agencies.
“We have managed to resolve most of these land-related issues. That is why the contractor is now able to proceed at a good pace,” he said during a press conference while visiting the project site on Tuesday (Apr 7).
Aidel said the project is the first of its kind in Sarawak as it is designed to high standards, including the provision of dedicated bicycle lanes in both directions.
He added that the road is being built according to JKR R5 standards, with a road reserve of 80m in width, and will also include a central space 20m for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane.
“This road is designed according to JKR R5 standards. It is quite large — almost comparable to the Pan Borneo Highway in terms of pavement, but with the addition of dedicated bicycle lanes,” he said.
He added that the project will continue with other packages, including Section 1A, which connects Tanah Putih to Rayang, to complete the road network in the area.
