SERIAN: The Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) will contribute significantly to Malaysia and Sarawak’s advancement in skilled human capital.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said the presence of ILP in a small town like Serian is a historic step forward that will place the district on the national development map.

Riot noted that the institute provides students with direct access to technical and vocational education without the need to travel to Kuching, Kota Samarahan or Miri.

“Serian is very lucky. Fifty years ago, no one would have imagined that an ILP would be established here.

“With this, our youth can now stay closer to home while gaining the necessary skills to support the development of the state and nation,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the second student intake’s ‘Minggu Silaturrahim’ (MSR) at Serian ILP today.

Riot, a former human resources minister, described the second intake as a continuation of history in the making and urged students to see themselves as part of Sarawak’s transformation journey.

He said the contribution of ILP graduates nationwide has been vital to Malaysia’s workforce, and he expressed optimism that Serian ILP will have the same impact moving forward.

“What you’re going to learn will help propel Sarawak into what it needs to become. Everybody talks about Sarawak, let’s talk about Serian too.

“As a former human resources minister, I know the importance of skilled labour. Malaysia, and especially Sarawak, needs you. You are part of that future,” he added.

He reminded the students to appreciate the opportunity before them and to take pride in being pioneers of the institute.

Riot also commended the trainers and staff at Serian ILP, saying they too are part of history in the making.

“You are part of a community that will help shape our country’s future, especially in technology.

“You (trainers) are the backbone of this institution. Your role is vital in shaping the next generation of technical professionals,” he said.
