SERIAN: The Serian divisional mosque will take centre stage as the host of the 2025 state-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration next Monday (Mar 17), marking a momentous occasion with the unveiling of its new name.
Telecommunications and Utility Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will officiate at the mosque’s upgrading ceremony as part of the event.
Abdul Rahman, who also oversees Islamic Affairs, added that the event will begin at 6 pm, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg set to deliver a special address in conjunction with the celebration.
“We expect around 1,000 guests to attend the event, including 200 distinguished guests and 800 invitees comprising community leaders, school students, members of the public, and others.
“Themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’, we will also be hosting five accompanying events starting from Mar 14, leading up to the main celebration,” he said.
He said this during a press conference on state-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration at the Serian Resident’s office today.
The Sarawak Islamic Council, through the Da’wah Division of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), is set to organise the Sarawak Islamic Affairs Forum (Forheis) and Jualan Rahmah on Mar 14 at the mosque.
On Mar 15, a premier religious talk will be held at Masjid Al-Abrar in Kampung Lubok Ria, featuring the senior assistant director of the Islamic Education Sector at the Sarawak State Education Department Ustaz Sulaiman @ Leman Hasim as the speaker.
Meanwhile, on Mar 17, the Da’wah division of JAIS will also host the Mushaf Exchange and Quran Hour.
Abdul Rahman asserted that the celebration will begin with a breaking of fast session, followed by Maghrib prayers in congregation, and a dinner reception.
Following the Isyak call to prayer, the Quran recitation will be delivered by Mohd Faizil Affandi, the winner of the 2025 Sarawak Quran Reading competition.
“This will be followed by a Nuzul Al-Quran lecture by the esteemed Mufti of Sarawak, Sahibus Samahah Datuk Kipli Yassin.
“The ceremony will then proceed with an address from the Premier, and the official upgrading ceremony of the Serian divisional mosque.
“The evening will continue with Isyak, Tarawih, and Witir prayers in congregation, before the celebration concludes with a traditional ‘moreh’ meal,” he added.
In this regard, he invites all Muslims to join in the celebration this coming Monday, to collectively commemorate the significant event of Nuzul Al-Quran, fostering unity and shared remembrance.
