SERIAN: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus has called for a more suitable location for the Serian District Council Ramadan Bazaar, citing space constraints and parking difficulties at the current site in Taman Komuniti.

He acknowledged that while the bazaar has received strong public support regardless of location, some locals believe it was better suited at the parking lot opposite Everwin Centre Serian, which offered more space for stalls and visitors.

However, he said the authorities advised against using that site due to safety concerns, leading the council to opt for Taman Komuniti instead.

“The council also considered placing the bazaar in front of the community hall, but police advised against it because it is too close to the main road and highway,” he told the media when officiating at the event on Monday (March 3).

John said the Serian Conference Centre could be a more suitable venue in the future, given its larger capacity.

“This year, the number of stalls has slightly decreased due to space limitations and a shorter preparation period.

“There are 66 stalls in total, with eight offering grilled food, while the rest sell various food and beverages,” he added.

As such, he assured that his office would assist in finding a better site for future bazaars and similar events.

“In Serian, there is no difference between the Ramadan bazaar and other community bazaars because we have long embraced assimilation between ethnic and cultural groups.

“Everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy the offerings,” he said.
