PADAWAN: Seven locals, including two women, were charged in the Kuching Magistrate’s Court for their involvement in using fake QR Pay Code payment receipts around the district.

Padawan Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, confirmed that they were charged on four counts yesterday.

He added that the suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were previously arrested by the Padawan Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) on April 15 and 17.

“The crime, involving the use of QR Pay Code receipts, was committed at four supermarkets in Padawan.

“Four investigation papers have been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property,” he said.

Upon conviction, the section provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years, caning, and a fine.

In light of this, Mohd Irwan advised the public, especially business owners, to be more cautious when accepting QR Pay payments, and to verify transactions before customers leave the premises.
