KUCHING: A businessman has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the death of a man at an apartment in Jalan Sungai Tapang here last year.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali granted the remand order for the 38-year-old suspect, following an application by investigating officer ASP Sylvarius Gopog under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The suspect, represented by counsel Roger Chin, is scheduled to appear in court again on March 4.
In the same court, another suspect linked to the same case had his remand extended for five more days, from Feb 25 to March 2.
The 27-year-old, previously remanded from Feb 19 to 25, is represented by counsel Hani Iryani Bonny.
It is understood that a total of eight men, aged between 22 and 48, have been arrested in connection with the case.
However, some were later released and made prosecution witnesses, while others were freed on bond.
The case stems from a gruesome discovery on Dec 1, 2024, when a 22-year-old man was found dead in an apartment room with multiple slash wounds.
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Mohd Radzi said authorities received a report of a commotion, which led to the discovery of the victim, at around 4.40am that day.
Several arrests followed, and investigations are ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police urge anyone with information on the case to contact ASP Sylvarius at 013-637241.
