KUCHING: Seven motorcycles were seized and 30 summonses issued during Op Motosikal (Op Samseng Jalanan) conducted in the city from Feb 27 to 28.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (JSPT) from 10pm to 2am at several locations, including Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakup, MASJA, PETROS Station and Pangkalan Sapi.

He said 35 vehicles and 45 individuals were inspected throughout the operation.

“Police issued 30 PDRM (K) 257 summonses for various offences and seized seven motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Among the main offences detected were riding without a licence, no insurance coverage, no registration number, fancy or unclear number plates, expired road tax, absence of side mirrors, modified exhausts and structural modifications,” he said in a statement.

Alexson said the operation was aimed at ensuring road users comply with traffic regulations and to curb illegal street racing activities in the city.

He said enforcement efforts would continue to safeguard road safety in Kuching.
