Seven months’ jail for possessing meth

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to seven months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday (Dec 15) for possessing 0.04 grams of methamphetamine.

Peter Blodi, 40, pleaded guilty to the charge read out by a court interpreter before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and could have been punished under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or five years’ imprisonment upon conviction.

According to the case facts, the offence occurred at around 11.30 am on February 3 in the living room of a house on Jalan Kampung Sidat.

Police had raided the unnumbered house on suspicion of drug-related activities.

During the inspection, they found a small transparent packet containing crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine on a table.

Peter was arrested during the raid. The seized substance was later sent to the Chemistry Department of Malaysia, which confirmed it was methamphetamine weighing 0.04 grams.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused represented himself in court.
