LUNDU: The Armed Forces’ First Infantry Division last Friday caught seven individuals including a local woman for attempting to cross over to Kalimantan, Indonesia through a rat trail (jalan tikus).

In a statement issued, the group was arrested by a team from the 11th Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) about one kilometre from the Sarawak-Indonesia border near a farm at Kampung Biawak in Lundu.

While manning an operation codenamed Ops Kerangka, the team halted a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle that was carrying seven individuals comprising six Indonesian men and a local woman around 9am.

“The team found that two Indonesians were holding expired passports while four others did not have any valid travel document. A local woman who is suspected to be a smuggler was detained for further investigations.

“Also seized were mobile phones, cash and the 4WD vehicle worth RM58,913,” the statement said.

The incident was reported to the 4th Royal Armoured Corps (KAD) commanding officer Lt Col Shamzaini Misran before the arrestees and seized items were taken to Lundu police station for further action.
