SERIAN: A total of seven Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in the constituency have been fully upgraded to improve community preparedness in disaster-prone areas.
The upgrades were carried out under the Serian Division PPS Upgrading Programme, aimed at strengthening public facilities used during floods and other emergencies.
One of the projects – the PPS at Dewan Kampung Lintang Baru – was officially handed over today by Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who is also Tarat Assemblyman.
“Upgrading basic facilities like these is important to ensure the comfort and safety of evacuees during disasters such as floods,” he said during the handover ceremony.
The project cost RM35,869 and was implemented between March and May this year.
It involved the construction of a new toilet block with two units and two shower rooms, as well as electrical rewiring with the installation of eight lights and wall fans.
The six other PPS upgraded under the same programme are St Peter’s Church Kampung Soh, Balai Raya Kampung Betong Kanowit, Dewan Kampung Melayu Balai Ringin, Dewan Kampung Rimba Padi, Dewan Kampung Seniawan Jepon, and Dewan SK Tebakang.
The programme is part of the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure and enhance community-level disaster management.
