KUCHING: Sarawak’s Gillian Lim is setting her sights on the Thailand Open after a seventh-place finish at the 2025 United States Open.

The 26-year-old bowler from Miri, a former Malaysian International Open champion, came close to a top-five finish during the match play stage at Sun Valley Lanes in Nebraska.

She was ultimately edged out in her final two matches by Singapore’s New Hui Fen, who went on to win the tournament.

“Being up against top-level bowlers really challenged me, and while I’m happy with how I performed, I know there’s still a lot I need to improve,” Gillian told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

Reflecting on her experience, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said it had only strengthened her motivation to keep progressing.

“This tournament gave me a clearer picture of what I need to work on moving forward, and I’m motivated to keep learning and growing from here,” she added.

With her sights now set on the Thailand Open, Gillian is eager to apply the lessons learned in the US.

She views the tournament as a key stepping stone in her journey to represent Malaysia at the World Championships later this year.

“As for what’s next, I’ll be preparing for the Thailand Open soon, and hopefully, I’ll be able to make it into the World Championship team,” she added.
