KUCHING, Oct 23: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has described its recent Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) Gold recognition as a proud milestone, reflecting years of effort in maintaining world-class standards at its parks.

Deputy general manager Japanie Bujang said the recognition, awarded by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), affirms SFC’s commitment to excellence in managing both Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and Niah National Park.

“This recognition marks another proud chapter for SFC. It shows that all the hard work we have put into maintaining our national parks has been acknowledged by the government,” he said when met after the MyTQA recognition presentation ceremony here today.

He said that ongoing improvement works are being carried out at both parks to ensure sustainability and enhance visitor experience.

“We are currently upgrading facilities at Niah and Semenggoh. As everyone knows, Niah National Park has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, so we expect an increase in visitor numbers.

“Our focus now is to ensure the park is well-prepared to accommodate higher tourist arrivals.”

At Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, he revealed that upgrading works are also underway and that Phase One of its development is expected to be completed by 2026.

“Several facilities have already been upgraded, and the first phase of the project is targeted for completion by May 2026.”

As of September 2025, the Niah National Park recorded about 25,000 visitors, comprising 22,000 local visitors and 3,000 foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre attracted around 340,000 visitors, including 160,000 foreign tourists.

Japanie said these figures reflect Sarawak’s growing appeal as an eco-tourism destination and reaffirm SFC’s commitment to protecting natural heritage while supporting tourism development.

“The recognition encourages us to continue improving and maintaining high standards so that both our natural assets and tourism offerings remain world-class.”
