KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), in strategic collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM Sarawak) as the programme coordinator, has introduced the SFC Media Appreciation Award 2025.

It is an initiative to recognise the role of journalists and media practitioners in highlighting important stories related to the environment, biodiversity, and Sarawak’s heritage.

This award is held in conjunction with the SFC 2025 Excellent Service Award (APC) event and symbolises SFC’s appreciation for media partners who have long played a crucial role in conveying conservation and sustainability messages to the public.

The initiative also aims to serve as a bridge that connects Sarawak’s forest and wildlife conservation efforts with the people through impactful and creative communication channels.

With the theme ‘Legacy of the Wild – Celebrating Stories that Protect Sarawak’s Heritage’, the award is open to media practitioners and digital content creators who have published reports, documentaries, or social media posts related to Sarawak’s conservation efforts between January 2024 and August 2025.

“Through this platform, we want to recognise media practitioners not only for reporting news but also for inspiring society to understand and appreciate the state’s natural heritage,” said AZAM Sarawak in a press statement today.

Three main categories are contested, namely Social Media Reporting Award, News Reporting Award (print and digital media), and Broadcast Media Award (radio/TV).

Entries can be submitted in either Bahasa Malaysia or English, with only the first 20 entries accepted in each category.

Each category will select only one winner for each language, who will receive a cash prize and official recognition from SFC.

Entries can be submitted via email to azamsfcaward@gmail.com by October 9, 2025.

According to an SFC spokesperson, this recognition not only celebrates the contribution of media practitioners but also encourages more storytelling that touches hearts and raises awareness on the importance of protecting Sarawak’s ecosystems and natural heritage.

The initiative also supports the high-impact communication agenda championed by AZAM Sarawak through the Movement for Progress campaign.
