THE seized logs at Batang Tubah, Selalang, Sarikei.

SIBU: Acting on a public tip-off, an illegal logging operation at Batang Tubah, Selalang, Sarikei was foiled by enforcement officers from Sibu Regional Office of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) on Wednesday.

This was disclosed in a SFC statement explaining that the enforcers had found a total of 333 pieces of mangrove (bakau) poles, believed to have been illegally extracted from a nearby mangrove forest.

The statement also pointed out that the location raided was within a timber licence area. However, the illegal activity was believed to have been carried out by intruders. A report on the raid had been lodged at Tanjung Manis Police Station. The case was handed over to Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
