SIBU: The spirit of National Day was given a meaningful expression in Sg Sadit Kanan near here on Monday (Aug 31) as residents traded their day of rest for a collective effort, coming together to clean up their neighbourhood and strengthen community ties.
The community clean-up programme, organised by Komuniti Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew in collaboration with Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Sg Sadit Kanan, drew enthusiastic participation from residents.
Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie said such community activities reflected the values of mutual respect, cooperation and care that had long been cherished in Sarawak.
He said public holidays should not only be seen as opportunities for rest but could also serve as occasions for families, friends and neighbours to come together and contribute to their community.
“Every effort contributed by everyone today is an expression of our care for our rural community and a gesture of love towards our own home.”
He commended the residents for their strong participation, particularly their willingness to devote part of National Day to improving their own community.
He also expressed appreciation to Komuniti Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew and the organising committee for providing a platform that brought residents together in a meaningful and constructive way.
“Regardless of our different ethnicities and religions, as long as we continue to uphold the Sarawak spirit of mutual respect, understanding and tolerance, and work together to safeguard harmony and unity in our society, we can make our communities better, ensure continued development in our rural areas and make Sarawak more prosperous and stronger.”
He urged residents to continue working hand in hand, caring for one another and playing their part in maintaining the cleanliness and well-being of their neighbourhood.
Also present were Komuniti Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew advisor Datin Janet Lau and members of JKKK Sg Sadit Kanan.
