SERIAN: The launch of the RM8.49 million Sungai Sadong Bridge construction project marks a significant step towards improved connectivity for residents of Kampung Hilir and Kampung Kemayau.
The project site handover ceremony, held at Kampung Hilir, on Tuesday marked the commencement of works on a new concrete bridge linking Kampung Hilir Serian to Jalan Kampung Kemayau providing easier access for villagers, especially to the Kampung Kemayau Muslim cemetery.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus said the project is being implemented under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) initiative for the Bukit Semuja constituency, with an implementation period of 24 months.
“With the handover of the project site today, we hope the construction of this bridge can be carried out within the promised timeframe.
“This project is very important in improving connectivity between Kampung Hilir, Kampung Kemayau and the surrounding areas,” he said when met by reporters.
He added that the construction of the bridge is expected to bring significant benefits to villagers in terms of daily transportation convenience and faster access in and out of the villages.
John also expressed hope that the appointed contractor and implementing agencies would strictly adhere to the project scope and timeline to prevent delays.
At the same time, he called on local residents, particularly affected landowners, to extend their full cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
The bridge construction is scheduled for completion within two years and is expected to enhance infrastructure facilities and the overall quality of life for the local community.
