KUCHING: An 18-year-old teenager has gone public seeking answers and justice over the murder of his older brother, saying key facts surrounding the case remain unclear more than a year after the murder.

Jeff Chang Jie said his brother Francis Chang Ze, 22, was brutally murdered at an apartment in Sungai Tapang here on Dec 1 last year after being attacked and stabbed to death by several assailants armed with knives.

Speaking to reporters this morning (Dec 30), he said despite developments in the case, many important details had yet to be fully uncovered, leaving the family searching for the truth behind the fatal attack.

“I have decided to speak out publicly so that the community would be aware of the case.

“I sincerely appeal to all relevant parties for their attention and support so that investigations can be completed swiftly and thoroughly so that justice can be delivered,” he said.

The youngest of three brothers also urged the police to consider, in accordance with the law, releasing photographs or identifying features of the suspects.

Such information could enable members of the public to come forward with leads to help trace other individuals believed to be involved in the case.

At the same time, he expressed hope that Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi and investigating officer ASP Sylvarius Gopog would handle the case with care, thoroughness and fairness, and ensure that everyone responsible is brought before the courts.

“The law must never be treated lightly, and no one has the right to decide the life or death of another person.

“I only hope the truth will come out and justice will be served for my brother,” he said.

Last year in early December, Francis was found dead with stab wounds in an apartment at Jalan Sungai Tapang here.

Mohd Irwan said police received a report of the incident at around 4.40am and dispatched the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the victim was found motionless in a room with multiple slash wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.

Since then, a total of 16 individuals has been detained to facilitate investigations into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
