KUALA LUMPUR: National track cyclists Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri were named Best Male and Best Female Riders at the 2025 Malaysian National Cycling Federation (PKBM) Appreciation Night held in Melaka last night.
The awards were presented by PKBM president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill at a ceremony attended by cycling officials, athletes and personalities from the sport.
In a statement today, Amarjit described the recognition given to the two riders as a new milestone in the federation’s history.
Muhammad Shah and Nurul Izzah each took home RM1,000 in cash and a certificate of achievement.
At the same time, para cyclists Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin and Nur Suraiya Mohd Zamri, who are currently competing in the 2025 Para Track Cycling World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were named Best Para Cyclists.
National cycling legend Datuk Ng Joo Ngan received a special award, along with a trophy and the remaining RM4,500 in prize money previously promised by PKBM.
Meanwhile, the Best State Association award went to the Sarawak Cycling Association (PBNS), while Mohd Yusof Abdul Nasir and Noor Alfizar Othman were named Malaysia’s Best Sports Officials for Cycling for 2025.
The renowned Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) was honoured as the Best Continental Team.
In addition, a Special Award was presented to Amarjit for his achievement as the first Malaysian elected as Vice-President of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). – BERNAMA
