AMID a swirl of controversy surrounding an alleged altercation with a veteran artiste, Shila Amzah rose above it all and delivered a commanding performance at Mr D.I.Y.’s 20th anniversary concert, held at Stadium Merdeka recently.
The powerhouse vocalist kicked off her set with an electrifying rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework”, setting the tone for a night filled with energy and emotion.
Shila, who recently lodged a police report after claiming she was attacked during a rehearsal session, remained poised and professional on stage. She also treated fans to her evergreen hit “Memori Tercipta” as well as the Mandarin ballad “Xiang Ni De Ye”.
“Congratulations to D.I.Y. on your 20th anniversary. Welcome to Stadium Merdeka. Thank you for having me,” she said, dressed in a striking red and black ensemble.
“It wasn’t easy for me to step on stage today, but I made it through,” she added, earning applause from the crowd.
The evening continued with a show-stopping appearance by rock legend Datuk Amy Search, whose setlist included fan favourites “Tiada Lagi”, “Fantasia Bulan Madu”, “Pawana” and the iconic “Isabella”.
In a spontaneous moment that thrilled the audience, the 66-year-old singer stepped off the stage to perform “Isabella” among the crowd, drawing cheers from fans of all ages and backgrounds.
Not to be outdone, Datuk Awie brought his trademark energy to the stage, belting out classics such as “Sejati”, “Di Penjara Janji” and “Terima Kasih”, much to the delight of concertgoers.
The star-studded line-up also featured dynamic performances by Jaclyn Victor, Ella, Penny Tai, Jeryl Lee and 3P, making the celebration a memorable one.
Just a day before the concert, Shila’s allegations of being physically assaulted by a senior artiste made headlines, with the singer revealing that the incident had affected her emotionally and raised concerns for her safety. Nonetheless, her professionalism and resilience took centre stage, proving her unwavering dedication to her craft.
