KUCHING: Shooting for the upcoming historical film Jangkar 1972, with a production budget of approximately RM6 million, will begin across several locations in Sarawak starting tomorrow.

Producer David Teo said the film ranks among the most expensive productions in his 26-year career in the film industry.
He said the significant investment reflects the importance of bringing the story to the public as a tribute to the sacrifices of national heroes.
“We want this story to be remembered by all Malaysians, and at the same time inspire younger generations, especially those who aspire to serve the nation,” he said during press conference on the film at the Waterfront Hotel here today.
Teo added that the team hopes the film will reach a wide audience and if well received, could pave the way for a sequel to be filmed in Sarawak.
In response to questions from reporters, he said discussions with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts are ongoing to determine a suitable release date.
“If everything goes smoothly, we are looking at a release next year, possibly aligning with significant dates such as National Day, Sarawak Day or Malaysia Day,” he said.

Meanwhile, director Jason Chong said filming will take place in several locations, including Kuching, Biawak, Lundu, Kampung Jangkar and Taman Bako.
He said the filming period is expected to take around 45 days, excluding preparation, logistics and other arrangements.
“Preparation for this film has taken nearly two years, covering concept development, creative direction and scriptwriting to ensure that elements of history and patriotism are conveyed effectively,” he said.
At the same time, he noted that commercial elements are also incorporated to ensure the film appeals to a wider audience.
“We want people to come to the cinema and experience a story that carries both historical value and strong patriotic themes,” he said.
He also encouraged the public to watch Jangkar 1972 in cinemas, noting that a large-scale production such as this is best experienced with full audiovisual capabilities.
The film features a line-up of actors including Yusof Hashim, Fikry Ibrahim, Noki K-Clique, Alieff Irfan and Datuk Tarmimi Siregar.
