BINTULU: A shop at Kampung Penan Muslim, Mile 10, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, was destroyed in an early morning fire today.
Fortunately, the 21-year-old shop owner managed to escape unharmed.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a team from the Bintulu fire station was deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 4.17 am.
“Upon arriving at the location, the firefighters found that a single-storey semi-permanent structure had been completely destroyed by the fire,” Bomba said in a statement.
Firefighters used a 100-foot hose connected to the fire engine to extinguish the fire, and they managed to get the fire under control by 4.45 am.
Later, they conducted an overhaul operation to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and to prevent any recurrence.
Once the situation was deemed safe with no risk of reignition, the operation ended at 5.02 am.
The cause of the fire and the losses incurred have yet to be ascertained.
