KUCHING: Many shopping malls here yesterday were crowded with Christmas celebrants doing their last minute shopping.
Roads were also jammed with vehicles.
New Sarawak Tribune managed to talk to some of the last minute shoppers yesterday.
Event manager Andrea Khoo, 36, revealed that she was buying food items for her Christmas dinner today.
“It will be a nice and simple celebration this year. I will have families and friends over for the Christmas dinner,” she said.
Asked about the prices of goods, Khoo felt that the prices of goods at the supermarkets were reasonable and had remained more or less the same.
“I spent more than RM2,000 for Christmas food and presents,” she added.
Meanwhile, insurance agent Diana Teng, 55, was searching for new clothes at one of the malls’ outlets.
“I have bought presents for my two sons and now I am just looking around for new clothes,” she said.
Teng added she would be hosting an open house today and that she had prepared everything a few days ago.
“That’s the spirit of Christmas, with people of different races and religions coming together to celebrate the season of joy, love, peace and harmony.”
Meanwhile, Flora Galong, 30, from Miri said she and her family were doing last minute shopping for new clothes.
“We are attending mass tomorrow at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, and we do not have anything nice to wear. That is why we are shopping now,” she said.
Today, Christians all over the world are celebrating Christmas which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ.
In Sarawak, people from other religions join in the celebration, too, by visiting their families or friends.
